AI Software Engineer

About

Senior cloud software engineer on AWS, AI-assisted development practitioner, and first-class computer science graduate.

I’m Ronnie, a senior software engineer who has spent the better part of a decade building APIs, serverless platforms and data-driven products on AWS. I care about systems that are simple to reason about, cheap to run and safe to change.

My route into software was through computer science at Bangor University, where I graduated with First Class Honours and received the Jane Rudall Award for determination and effort. Since then I’ve worked across product and consultancy teams, from price-comparison platforms at Moneysupermarket Group and TravelSupermarket, to connected-vehicle data at TRAILAR, serverless backends at City Electrical Factors, and education platforms at Twinkl. Today I’m a Senior Cloud Software Engineer at Leighton, a consultancy, placed with IAG International Airlines Group.

Cloud-native by default

Most of what I build is serverless. I’ve shipped Lambda functions behind API Gateway, rendered Vue SSR pages from S3 events, run services on ECS with Cognito authentication, and put Terraform and CI/CD around all of it. Along the way I’ve learnt that the interesting problems are rarely about any single service. They are about how the pieces fit together, how they fail, and how quickly a team can change them safely.

One project I’m especially proud of is the automation suite I built for a Vue SSR landing-page generator. Marketing could drop a JSON file into S3 and get server-rendered pages, and a Dockerised Cypress suite then verified the result across every environment as part of the pull request, build and deployment pipelines.

AI-driven engineering

I’m an AI software engineer in the practical sense: I use AI across the whole delivery lifecycle, not as autocomplete but as a genuine part of the workflow. Cursor, opencode, OpenAI Codex and GitHub Copilot help me move from a written specification to small, reviewable diffs quickly, while tests, type checks, review and evaluations keep the output trustworthy. I’m particularly interested in MCP integrations, agentic tooling and the emerging standards that make AI-assisted development repeatable rather than heroic.

The fundamentals still matter more than the tools. I rely on TDD and BDD, strong review habits and observability to keep quality high when velocity goes up.

Beyond the keyboard

I’m based in Mid-Wales, work remotely, and I’m an advanced Linux user who is happiest in a terminal. I’m a native Spanish speaker and bilingual in English, and I can understand Portuguese and communicate in it in a limited way. I hold several AWS certifications, including AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, along with a Cisco CCNA.
